Default What type of Property to invest in the current market

A few years ago I would have said invest in the city centre apartment, but thats before the huge over supply in some city centres.Infact our local town has seen a huge number of builds being converted into apartments. I think if I was looking for my first investment property I might even consider my own home, well no stamp dutylimited legal fees, I know the area. Why not move and keep your existing house that way if you sell at a profit within the first few years you will not have to pay capital gains tax as it was your main home.

If the above is not an option, think about what sort of landlord do you want to be? are you a handyman who doesnt mind doing up a property to rent and is happy to carry out on going maintenance and repairs, or would you prefer to pay for a professional letting service provided by a letting agent, are there large letting agents near by? Would letting out to students be more trouble than it is worth to you?

Why not invest in US apartments and have a local property managemnt handle the property - they will usually do it for a nominal percentage..
