Default Renters Insurance

I would like to strongly suggest that all landlords require their tenants to obtain renters' insurance to cover themselves in case of any sort of natural disaster or theft in the home. It is also advisable for pet owners to carry an additional liability insurance for their pets in case of an incident.

Very true about the pets, there are so many bite laws out there today, that having a dog today can be a big liability. Searching for an isurance company that covers certain breeds of dogs can be challenging. I own 2 Rotties and it took me a whole day to find an insurance company that would cover them.

Yeah, I own a Pit Bull and an American Bulldog/Pit Mix and landlords would not even give me the time of day until I found a company to cover them! It is so difficult to find a place to rent with pets, but I have found that getting these types of insurances for yourself really help your chances.

You own two Pit Bulls (who I'm sure are adorable) and you wonder why you have problems finding a place to rent.

I 100% agree! There should also be a clause in the rental agreement that if due to the renters negligence, property damage occurs, then they are responsible for the home owners insurcance deductable.

We lived this.We live in an apartment currently and a few months back there was an apartment fire that started in the building next to ours.It spread to our building as well.None of the affected apartments had renters insurance.Only us and the nighbors aside of us did.Ironically we only had to throw a way a little food that was damaged because of the power being cut of for a few days and it smelled like a gigantic BBQ in the hallway for awhile. We got the least damage fortunatly. But, the other building was burnt to the ground, and 2 units in our building had major smoke and water damage.Including large holes due to the firemen having to chop through. It was horrible that everyone lost everything. The red cross did well helping out but you cant replace so much and it is such an important thing to have.

Renters insurance is a must if for nothing but the theft insurance. I've had my electronics stolen way to many times by thugs not to have this at all times.

I can agree with this as long as the landlord doesn't choose the insurance company for the tenant!
