Default Who to contact

We have a rental property across the street from us that has been vacant for some time. The owner has not bothered to mow the lawn once nor do I think he shoveled at all in the winter. The place is really looking awful. Who does one contact about such issues?

You would want to contact your local law enforcement office and let them know that the property is being neglected.

Local law enforcement usually doesn't handle issues like this. They don't normally deal with issues like that and are more on the domestic disputes and traffic violations side of the law.

I'd contact your state or county housing authority. Most states/towns have websites set up and numbers to contact people that deal with housing issues, including neglect or property. You may also want to contact local officials that deal with land issues. We have house members in our state that are taking lots of action finally against abandoned buildings. The problem is they are falling, an eye sore and being set fire and getting homeless people trying to squat in them.It wasn't taken care of before the problem was bad and now the officials and other county members pass blame back and forth. So, from what I know you may get some run around with who may actually own the property. If all else fails you can try to contact an owner directly by looking up public records online or at the courthouse.Goodluck.

You might want to contact your local town council or someone like that. Or code enforcement office. If that fails, file a lawsuit for damages done to your property values and get them to court...if they don't show you have a good chance of winning and getting a lien on the home and then its your problem to solve
