Default Living in a Tourist Area

I live in San Diego, near many of the main attractions, and I can see that there are a lot of pluses and minuses to being so close to a tourist destination. I think if I could choose all over again I would not live so close to some of the attractions to get a break from all of the constant hustle and bustle. Anyone else have experience living in a tourist trap?

I live in a tourist area, its a place that we chose because the hiuse was so nice and we live slightly up the hill from all the action. The plus points are that you live in a place where others come o on holiday or at least for a day out. Everyone looks happy and theres a holiday type feel most of the year around. Any sunny day brings hoards of people. You can take a short walk and be able to buy an icecream and enjoy the other attractions yes sometimes the traffic can be annoying. Several times a year we get firework displays that we can watch from the house. On the downside I say that there is less community spirit as no one knows if you are a tourist or a local.

I'm from DC. The main disadvantage to living in a tourist town is forever being asked to give directions. It can be terrifying.

I did live for a month in a turistic area in Italy. The first week it was great, the place just felt like being always on vacation. I loved hearing different accents, seeing different ways of dressing, different lifestyles...But then I got a bit tired of it, as some tourists were not much considerate of the town's inhabitants. Some would get drunk at night and sing, others would throw beer bottles down the little hill in front of the house I stayed at. I didn't mind much the daytime hustle and bustle but the night time partying was very annoying! My uncle used to throw tomatoes at them from the window, it did work a bit I must admit!

I live in downtown St.Louis which is near the Anheseur Bush building and man, it seems like it's crazy all year round because people come here all the time to visit the down town area.

A summer resort type of area might not be so bad...then at least you'd get a bit of a break during the "off season" and have all the cool stuff to yourselves. Except that a lot of seasonal tourist places have folks who benefit from the tourist's cash so they live lean for a part of the year too.

Sometimes I wish I lived in a tourist trap, I keep thinking about how I'd open a litle shop to sell crafts I make, and I'd always have customers... I do understand how you can get tired of all th commotion though if you live in such a place.

I guess it would be OK for social people. Me, I'm a mean old man who likes his peace and quiet.

I live in Carlsbad, just north of San Diego, and while, yes the attractions are nice (I have passes to the Zoo, Sea World and Legoland) sometimes the congestion can get to you, and those lost tourists just drive soooo poorly!
