Default Flood Prone Areas

If you were looking at a property in a flood prone area, what types of flood precautions would you want to make sure were in place? Would buying in an easily flooded area be worth it if the price were well below other comparables in the area?

I would firstly look at the insurance. You would need to find out how much your buildings and contents insurance would be for that flood prone area as the premiums would be very expensive.

I donbt think it would be somewhere that I would buy, cheap or not, the threat of floods could ultimately prove to be costly.

I think the only smart housing in flood prone areas is that which can double as a boat!

I don't know why people are allowed to rebuild traditional home in areas that flood repeatedly, like areas along the Mississippi River. It is a constant drain on the economy and the money could be used elsewhere.

I wouldn't buy a home in a flood prone area. I think it's crazy! I also think that these people should be made to get insurance for flooding. Also other people in that area (not flood zone) should not have higher taxes and insurance to help pay for those that live in the flood zones.

I don't really like flood prone areas. I would never buy a house in that area even if it would be at a cheap price.
