Default How does shorting on a foreclosure work?

Hi

Can anyone explain the process of shorting on a foreclosure? How do the negotiations work with the lien holders? What would be a normal offer for a foreclosure property?

Hi
Foreclosure real estate investment represents a way for you to purchase property at an undervalue and then resell the property at a higher price later. Foreclosure being a legal term is a legal process by which a creditor (usually a bank) would enforce a charge in the mortgage document on the property and sell the property so as to realize the amount of money that is due and owing to the creditor. Now while in most cases there is some money left over after the property is sold and this is returned to the former owner of the property. However in some cases where property was bought at a price higher than the current market prices, the loan outstanding might be worth considerably more than the present value of the house. This is called negative equity and is a rather unenviable position to be in.
