A multimillion pound new homes scheme has been unveiled at a former college site in the UK. Developer Redrow announced the plan for Maidstone, Kent, featuring around 350 homes ranging from one-bedroom apartment property to five-bedroom houses.
More than five acres of open space will also be part of the plan, which already has outline permission from the local council. First construction work on the new homes will start in spring this year provided the property giant now secures detailed permission.
The housing development plot is on the site of the former Senacre College, with existing mature trees respected by the property layout. Geoff Keer, development director for Redrow Homes (Eastern), said the firm was pleased to be pushing on with new housing despite a downturn in the UK.
He said: “These are clearly challenging times for the housebuilding industry, but we are delighted to have acquired this excellent site and to be able to provide homebuyers in Kent with comfortable homes in a fabulous and sought-after area.
Some of the housing will include solar power renewable energy systems, low-use water management technology. Most of the property will be up for private sale, with the rest involving rented and shared ownership housing. Redrow also recently revealed homes were complete and on sale at one of its latest Yorkshire projects, Oak Glen in Gilstead , pictured.
