Reclamation work complete at ambitious ‘Al Marjan Island’

AlMarjan RAK UAE PRReclamation work is complete at an ambitious man-made island real estate project designed to provide luxury UAE homes .

Rakeen also said infrastructure structure work was now under way at the $1 billion Al Marjan Island development in Ras Al Khaimah (RAK).

Early work on the scheme has effectively expanded the emirate’s coastline by 21 kilometres, and when complete the project will include resorts, leisure facilities and retail opportunities as well as homes.

The unique real estate project is a collection of islands and a peninsula in the Arabian Gulf, 27 km southwest of Ras Al Khaimah town centre.

Rakeen infrastructure and project director Dr Fawzi Shadid said: “We have maintained the highest standards in all aspects of the project, and have adopted modern technology and pro-environment techniques that will distinguish Al Marjan Island as an environmentally friendly business and residential destination in the region.”

The project website lists completion for the land reclamation as due in 2007, while development completion was initially listed for June 2009.

Once completed homes on the island are expected to feature dozens of luxury villas, while plans also feature major hotels, a marina village and a water theme park.

There also a number of sub real estate developments, including the Gateway, a commercial and residential scheme built in five phases and set to provide new homes for tens of thousands of people.
