Modular homes with green building and custom design options
April 21, 2009 by OPPE News
When you hear the words - modular homes - you could be forgiven for imagining something rather less exotic than the quality of homes custom built by Westchester Modular Homes. Your probably think along the lines of the traditional narrow box, not a dream home.
Westchester Modular Homes and Zetland Homes LLC have joined forces to dispel that perception.
Westchester Modular, an employee owned company based in New York, was founded in 1986. “Back then there weren’t a lot of options in custom modular homes” confirms John Colucci, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Westchester.
Colucci has worked in the modular industry for over 25 years and confidently admits that he has seen it all.
“Our company was founded by a man that was tired of hearing that he couldn’t do custom options in his modular plans. So he did what we all wish we could do, he started his own company to fit a growing market need”.
Westchester Modular Homes provides custom modular homes for new home buyers through their network of builders. Zetland Homes LLC of Hopkinton, New Hampshire, is the latest addition to that network. Each company was working to find the right fit for the quality homes they build and a partnership in responsible building was born.
The attraction for each company is the passion they share for sustainable building. “People have different shades of green that they want to achieve with their design and budget. Modular homes are the easiest start to building green simply by the fact they are built in a controlled environment, using better than standard specifications, and with less waste” says Steven Reddy of Zetland Homes LLC.
Reddy knows his stuff when it comes to the meaning of the term “green building”. He was one of the first Certified Green Professionals (CGP) in the country. Zetland Homes LLC built the second home in New Hampshire under the US Green Building Council LEED for Homes Pilot Program. This Demonstration Green Home then won the 2008 Cornerstone gold award for “most energy efficient design solution”. Zetland Homes LLC recently completed the second home in New Hampshire being certified under the Build Green NH program.
Recent studies show that modular homes could dominate custom home building in the next 10 years as people learn the benefits and value inherent in modular construction, as well as the cost savings by going “green” with companies like Westchester Modular and Zetland Homes LLC.
