Property tax fraud – scamsters catch out the unwary

On the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog.

Property tax scamsters have been at work in L.A. sending out official looking documentation suggesting that the recipient’s property was over-assessed, according to LA Weekly .

The letter advises the recipient that they may be paying too much property tax and offers to get the bill reduced. The recipient is requested to pay a $179 service to start the process.

The official looking documentation is sent from ‘Property Tax Reassessment’ based in Los Angeles and represents a property tax bill complete with an assessor’s I.D. number for the targeted property. It’s very official looking with the exception of the post office box appearing as a return address for Property Tax Reassessment’s regional processing center.
