10 Easy ways to save money in 2010

happy chappyIt’s not always about what you earn it’s about what you spend too, or more precisely – what you don’t spend. The recession has bitten hard but made us all stronger. Although 2009 was tough , the lessons we’ve learnt will stay with us and make us capable of getting the best bang for our buck.

So here’s our top ten money saving tips that will make your money go further in 2010:

  1. Change your mortgage – If you’re on a repayment mortgage – change it to interest only, and save the difference – don’t spend it. You can compare deals on line through price comparison websites such as this one: Beat That Quote – Mortgages.
  2. Use cash – stop buying everything on credit cards – you’re simply throwing money down the drain. Work out a weekly cash allowance – pocket money if you like, but you must have it in cash. There’s a world of difference between spending on plastic and using cash. Cash makes you more cautious – and you’ll see how you fritter it away.
  3. Change your utilities such as gas and electric. Again there are a raft of price comparison websites – just pick one.
  4. Buy basic – Supermarkets have a vast range of basic products which are much cheaper than brand alternatives. Try them and see if you can tell the difference. I can’t with marmalade – but I can with soap powders and cleaning products. Buy basic and save.
  5. Check money saving sites regularly – sites like money saving expert are awash with good advice and tips. For example – we bought a pool table for £29 for Christmas which normally retails at £99. At £29 it’s great value and has provided loads of family fun, but it wouldn’t have made an appearance at £99 – Ho, ho, ho!
  6. Holidays – plan ahead. Check Ryanair and other sites such as Lastminute etc as regularly as you can. Why pay hundreds for a flight when you can fly for £1! All you need to do is plan ahead and go where the deals are – you’ll have a great time.
  7. Use cash back and voucher sites – Did you know that nearly every retailer you can think of has vouchers on a cash back site? Check them out and print the coupons – it’s rude not to.
  8. Sell your junk on eBay -It doesn’t matter what it is: Half bottles of perfume, M&S vouchers, a dogs lead etc. Also buy from eBay – you’ll be amazed what you can get for next to nothing.
  9. Buy your milk from Iceland, travel by bus and train and look out for cheap nights at you local Indian, and cinemas.
  10. Sell your house privately – If you’re thinking of moving in 2010 you’ll save yourself the price of a Rolex watch with cheap property advertising.

Even if you only try a few of the above, you’re guaranteed to save money and have a bright and prosperous New Year!

As far as ebay BUYING and deals go,

    1. Something that might be worth trying is searching eBay for listings that have main key words misspelled in the title. Sites like ebuyersedge.com (typojoe.com, etc) will search ebay for common misspellings of keywords you enter.

Most interested buyers will never see these misspelled listings, reducing the competition and most likely ending price.

Ebuyersedge also gives you the option of saving your favorite searches, then sending you an email when an item is listed matching one your saved searches, giving you a jump on other potential buyers.

This works best with ‘Buy It Now’s, but is also effective with auctions.

    2. Whenever you send a question to a seller, use the “Ask a question” link that is on a page of another item they’re selling that you’re not interested in.

Maybe send the seller an offer to end the auction early. All they can do is say no.

Yeah cashback sites are good I use topcashback.co.uk and earned over 60 quid without trying too hard in just over 6 months

Consider using major shopping comparison websites to find deals online. These kind of sites are usually a perfect avenue for savvy shoppers to get a better bargain on any kind of products.
