Margaret Dwyer’s Birthday Treat at Bramshott Place Village

MrsWhen Hindhead resident, Margaret Dwyer recently walked around the show flat at Bramshott Place Village, Liphook, purchasing one of the luxury apartments designed specially for the over 55s was the last thing on her mind. Yet moments later, and to the complete surprise of her family, Mrs Dwyer had signed on the dotted line and bought the show flat – complete with all its furniture, completing on her birthday and taking only three weeks from first viewing to completion.

At the time, Mrs Dwyer’s son and girlfriend were visiting their mother for her birthday and had suggested a visit to Bramshott Place Village. “They’d been suggesting I move for a while,” explains Mrs Dwyer, “as I’ve been rattling around in my five bedroom house on my own since my husband passed away 10 years ago. The house has a big garden, needing alot of upkeep and I need a cleaner every week. But I had given absolutely no thought to moving to a retirement village and didn’t even know about the development.”

Walking around the show flat, Mrs Dwyer’s family were enthusiastic and suggested she think about moving there. “Much to everyone’s surprise I replied, ‘I have thought about it. And I’m going to buy it!’ They were delighted,” says Mrs Dwyer.

Not only that, she bought all the furniture as well. “The only things I’m going to change are the pictures on the walls. They’re lovely but I have a lot of paintings from my travels and my son is a very good artist. I’ve been in my house for over 50 years and some of the furniture is more than 35 years old, so it really was time for a change,” she continues.

The rest of the family are thrilled with Mrs Dwyer’s spontaneous decision. “My daughter, who lives nearby, came to look at the apartment with me the next day. She thought it was lovely and said I’d made a very good decision.”

So what made such a great first impression? “The buildings are very attractive and the apartment is tastefully decorated,” Mrs Dwyer comments. “I liked the pool and the village shop is so handy. There was just such a lovely atmosphere about the place and everyone seemed so pleasant.”

And she is even going to be living next to a neighbour from the past. “A neighbour of mine lost his wife a couple of years ago and then moved into Bramshott Place Village. He’s very happy here and told me ‘I couldn’t do better’,” she explains.

The hydro-therapy pool is just one of the many amenities to be enjoyed by residents at the village’s on site Clubhouse. There’s also a fitness centre, library, meetings room, atrium, games room, bar, restaurant, doctors surgery and guest suite. Plus a domestic cleaning and laundry service as well as a resident nurse and village manager.
