Brad Pitt reveals his true passion

I was thinking the other day that my home isn’t quite environmentally friendly or sustainable enough, given that ‘green’ is now the new black. So, in order to fix this, I was thinking about calling Winona Ryder to come and help me out. “Winona Ryder?” I hear you scoff. Well, yes. Given the news today that Brad Pitt is helping to design a five-star sustainable hotel development in the UAE, I presume that all celebrities are qualified for the job of ‘environmental building boffin’, and Winona doesn’t seem to be doing much lately, so…
Okay, seriously (I use the word ’seriously’ lightly), it’s been revealed that Mr Brangelina is on the team of consultants appointed to design a new five-star hotel and leisure development investment opportunity in Dubai for luxury property developer, Zabeel Properties.
LA architects, GRAFT, are the company tasked with the development and have joined forces with Brad Pitt, who is well known worldwide for his architectural talents…er, right.
Brad Pitt said:
“Whilst acting is my career, architecture is my passion. Selecting this development as my first major construction project has been a simple decision. It will underpin not only my values for environmentally-friendly architecture, but also embrace my career in entertainment.”
Yes, watching you design a hotel will be exceptionally entertaining.
Alright, maybe I am being a bit unfair here and I’m going to reign in my sarcasm for now. All credit to him, this isn’t his first foray into architecture. Last year, he launched is own regeneration project for New Orleans, designing a range of eco-friendly and flood-proof homes and commissioning 13 architectural firms to produce houses that would incorporate solar power and other environmentally-sound designs - with $5m of his own money.
Although somehow that makes this move all the more bizarre, why isn’t he looking into sustainable building projects in Africa, rather than wealthy, flourishing, investment-filled Dubai?? Perhaps what made this a “simple decision” was the high profile status of the project, or the cash on offer, or maybe he really just wants to build sustainable buildings anywhere he can. The jury is out on this one.
